The loss of twelve innocent movie goer lives at a midnight premier showing of the latest Batman movie was, of course, a horrendous act of murder and violence by one individual. We hope that all theaters will now consider suitable precautions when scheduling midnight premiers from now on, perhaps even suspending these showings for a reasonable time or perhaps for good.
Cat Rescue Facility on Youngs?
There is now a proposal to establish a feline rescue facility on Youngs Avenue on what is presently private property and currently being used as for a variety of farm animals. The proposed location is immediately adjacent to a residence and other nearby homes. A hearing will be held on this proposal.
The vacant firehouse on Second Avenue has been slated for a number of uses including being torn down to make way for additional downtown parking. Now it seems the Suffolk County Historical Society would like to have the facility to use as a museum. Stay tuned.
What of the Armory?
The status of the Armory on route 58 is still up in the air. Original planning called for the Armory (which was turned over to the Town by the State) to be renovated to become the new Police Headquarters. The cost to renovate is prohibitive of course and the movement in that direction has been slow.
The dog park, near the ball fields at EPCAL was scheduled to open on Saturday 7/11. The steady rain may have put a slight damper on that plan.
