More Police Downtown
There have been a number of crimes in the downtown area over the last few weeks.  Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter has directed that more police would be present in the area.  A couple visiting the Aquarium was held up at knife point when returning to their parked vehicle on Ostrander.  The assailant rode a bicycle  when cornering the couple against a fence.

Another visitor from the Brookhaven hamlet was struck by a hit and run car while trying to cross Main Street. The victim was struck by a second vehicle after being hit and was declared dead. A driver has been arrested in the case.  A third incident occurred on Sound Avenue when a woman driving a vehicle was car jacked by a hooded individual who threatened the victim with a gun (never actually shown ). The carjacker left the vehicle after being driven to Osborn Avenue.

House Passes Sandy Bill  Part1)
The House of Representatives today passed a bill which would provide immediate funds to replenish the reserves needed by FEMA.  FEMA funding was expected to run out by next week sometime.  This first bill for $9.7 billion dollars will now go to the Senate for final passage.  A second bill for $60 billion will be debated on January 15.  This second bill has been loaded up with pork spending and will have a difficult time in passing in present form.
