Short Takes (but still important)

Seeing Specks before Your Eyes?
There have been numerous complaints regarding the appearance of black spots or specks on the exterior of many homes in our area. The specks are routinely dismissed by representatives of the Town who suggest that the specks come from a mold that is active in or around the wood mulch that we put in our gardens. The DEC representative made a personal inspection at our house and announced his intention to have their lab take samples and report their findings. Never happened.

Other homeowners on North Woods Road and Deep Hole Road have reported similar sightings. We decided to hire our own inspection company whose lab determined that the specks were "post combustion carbon", a possible byproduct of asphalt plant production. The Town has now undertaken to hiring their own inspection company. They have been inspecting the homes where specks have appeared. There have been no announced findings as yet. Have specks on your house? Call the Town engineer or Mark Kennedy.
