When the Greater Calverton Civic Association dropped flyers in our mail boxes this past week it is suspected that they generated a great deal of interest on the part of homeowners in The Preserve. They not only mentioned the asphalt plant and Reclamation project as agenda subjects but offered some new items as well such as the F1 Go Cart Racing facility proposed on Edwards Avenue and the Manors "Group Home".
The Association is having a meeting on February 6th, 7:00 PM, at the Riley Avenue School to discuss these subjects and all are invited whether you are members or not. Councilwoman Barbara Blass, Councilman John Dunleavy and Mark Leibowitz from the F1 proposal are scheduled to address the issues.
It would be helpful for some of us to attend and report back with our observations.

The F1 Go Cart Racing track is better suited for Coney Island than the still low populated North Fork. The new, 100,000-sq. ft. F1 Kart-Racing facility on Spagnoli Road behind the Huntington Hilton would seem near enough for any Long Islander's with the urge to drive a go-kart.
However, the enterprise is not without virtue. According to a NY Daily News article of 11/28/04: "...F1 has a zero tolerance policy regarding alcohol and drugs, enforced with Breathalyzer tests. There will be a bar inside the facility, but if a driver goes for a drink, the driver's special wristband indicating sobriety will be revoked."
Does the same vigilance apply to drivers who arrive drunk?
