Mastronardi Subdivision Finally on the Agenda
We have learned that Young and Young, representing Mastronardi, will present revised drawings before the Riverhead Planning Board on the evening of October 5 at 7:00 PM. The drawings will include the tap street (cut through of the existing cul-de-sac on the Preserve) as announced several months ago.
You may recall that the original plan to cut through the cul-de-sac was met with such objection (August 2005) that Young and Young agreed to withdraw the proposal and revised their working drawings. Subsequently the Planning Board revived the idea of the cut through and ordered it included in the subdivision planning by a narrow 3-2 vote. Objections by the public, petitions, letters and telephone calls made no difference.
This neighborhood of just 25 homes represents close to a quarter of a million dollars in taxes to help support this town and we have been treated with indifference by one of its Boards with NO JUST CAUSE. This cut through will add nothing to the community, the town, the environment or anything else. It merely sounds like something that looked nice in Planning 101.
The Preserve neighborhood has been dumped on by this town with the landfill, the choking asphalt plant and the never ending intrusion of a recycling plant that the town will not monitor. Guess it isn't an election year.
We urge everyone to attend this meeting and stand up and be counted. Be prepared to stand at the podium and tell the Board your feelings. Be vocal and be especially vocal about the amount of taxes provided by this enclave.
English Language Test Results - Disappointing
State education officials have recently released the results of the new English Language Arts exams taken in January by students in grades 3-8. The results, which can be read in the Sunday Newsday are quite disappointing for the Pulaski Street Elementary and Riverhead Middle Schools.
