Tax Increase - Expected More

The news about the town wide tax increase was not good but was expecting it to be worse. The proposed increase is 6.14% per $1000 in value or 37.12 per $1000 as the new rate. We were expecting some terrible numbers like 14% but the reserve fund was brought into play and that helped keep a lid on higher numbers. Landfill expenses (whichever way that goes) are put off until the 2007-2008 budget.

School Superintendent Resigns - Was He Asked?

Riverhead Schools Super. Paul Doyle resigned suddenly last week and it has been suggested that he was asked to do so. Board member Prete wishes that "he could have been fired". His employment ends at the end of the year but remains "at home" until then.
