Planning Board Approves Mastronardi Resolution
The Riverhead Planning Board, by resolution, has approved the site plan of the Mastronardi subdivision. Representatives of the developer (Young & Young) will now prepare final site plan drawings for a public hearing which will probably be scheduled in about a month from now.
Passage of the resolution was a formality and voted on unanimously by the Board members. There was no opportunity to speak for or against the resolution which may be done by interested parties at the public hearing.
The site plan, as approved by the resolution, still contains the tap street and, will of course, appear on the final drawings. Remarks made by certain Board members (while discussing other proposed subdivisions) indicates a clear bias in favor of tap streets as a concept in planning. Apparently these Board members are not in tune with the Brookhaven Planning Board which recently approved a 59 unit subdivision and eliminated two (2) tap streets which appeared on the original site plan.
There is no reason why this tap street should remain on this site plan. The residents of this community must join together and strongly object to the concept. We have a legitimate objection and must voice it up to and at the public hearing (and after it as well).
Please offer your comments and suggestions and don't let this happen!

Supervisor and Board Want to Go First Class
The Riverhead Supervisor and the Town Board have voted to change the Town's category from suburban to "first class". This apparently has some benefit to the operation of the Town and will also mandate some obligations. It may also provide a change in how councilmen represent you. Instead of being "at large" the councilmen will be required to represent specified districts within the Town. Department heads will become commissioners instead of elected officials. The supervisor will be given added responsibility and power as well. I believe that a referendum is required to implement the change.
