In the wierd, wacky world of Riverhead politics and government planning we are being treated to another strange concept for EPCAL, a 500 foot high ski run and recreational center. There seems to be an endless supply of raceways, amusement parks, go-karts, water parks, convention centers, hotels and of course, the always available golf course. All ready to go whenever EPCAL is mentioned. Is there anyway that the Town can say no to the endless parade of leisure facilties and oher useless projects that are proposed for the former Grumman site?
It just seems that this extremely valuable acreage is doomed to be cut up piecemeal with a less than desirable final result. Large parcels being sold off to developers at minimal prices only to be resold for the developer's profit. Amusement parks or recreational areas, with little staying power and questionable stability, are routinely proposed. The handover of the Naval property was intended and accepted as a special gift to the Town and if handled properly could have been a huge benefit to the citizens. Perhaps the legacy is not lost.
There is a serious need for everyone involved to step back and rededicate the effort to develop the Grumman site to the fullest potential encouraging the most stable enterprises to establish manufacturing or services there. Get this enterprise back on track. It is too valuable to be lost to a poor lineup of racecars and roller coasters.
Romaine Proposes Resolution
Suffolk County legislator Ed Romaine will propose a resolution before the County legislature which would withdraw all county money now on deposit with Bank of America. The resolution is in protest of the Bank's current proposal to issue credit cards to persons who do not have Social Security cards and may have an illegal alien status.

Addendum to Ed Romaine's resolution
No sooner had the outcries against Bank of America's credit card plan begun when Wells Fargo announced that they were looking into the same concept. And so it goes!
