Landfill Cap Prepared for Bid
Supervisor Cardinale, in a local radio broadcast, advised that the capping of the landfill may be on the horizon. The specifications for the cap are now being prepared and will be put out to bid sometime during the second week of August with replies expected within 30 days afterward.

Cardinale expects the cap to cost around $15 million dollars, considerably less than original estimates. In addition, the Supervisor expects the continued litigation in the matter to result in a further reduction of the total cost. So perhaps we will see a finalization of the landfill fiasco sometime this fall.

Terrorist Whistle Blower Get Second Chance
Thanks to Peter King and several other congressmen Americans may be protected against terrorist law suits after all. You may remember that a similar bill (attachment to a Homeland Security bill) failed in the Senate when 38 senators failed to support the amendment. King and others revived it in the House and it now looks like it will pass unless the President decides to veto the bill.

Local Calverton Resident Will Challenge Dem Slate
Greg Fischer of Calverton has filed a petition at the County Board of Elections announcing his intention to run for one of the Town Council seats. He will face George Bartunek and Amy Csorney in a primary on September 18. Mean-while the Riverhead Democratic town leader, Butch Langhorn, intends to challenge Mr. Fischer's petition. Trouble in paradise?
