Estimate for Landfill Cap at $9 million Plus
An independent consultant for the Town has now estimated that it will cost some $9 million dollars to cap the project. This is, of course, in addition to what has already been spent on reclamation thus far. The consultants have hedged their estimate somewhat by indicating that contents of some areas of the landfill are still unknown and may require further digging to ascertain what is under the sand. This may add to the present cost estimate. There will, of course, be an annual cost to maintain the cap as well. Not out of the woods yet!
EPCAL Center People Increase Bid to $125 Million.
This, of course, is the proposal to include a raceway and various other recreational facilities. The raceway, by the way, is not a NASCAR type and the public viewing area has been scaled down. Still lots of objections to this operation because of noise and traffic. Do we need this?
Roundabout Nears Completion.
Have you driven through the nearly completed roundabout on Osborne and Middle Road? What a maze! It is a little confusing and one must wonder what it accomplished. The Town has torn up 3 or 4 acres of property and trees, created a series of confusing curves and turns worthy of the Dallas interchange with little prospect that the traffic problem at this intersection has been solved. Wait a minute! Couldn't a simple solid red and green traffic light have accomplished the same thing? Maybe its just me.
Real Estate Slowdown Has One Positive.
Word is that the housing market slowdown may have resulted in Mastro Realty (the proposed subdivision just east of The Preserve ) putting on the brakes for a while. The longer we can put off the tap street, the better off we will be. This rumor has not been confirmed and needs some followup.
Thank You Letter from Afghanistan
Had a nice letter from Lt. Col Leon Altman from Task Force Phoenix VI in Herat, Afghanistan thanking us for the school supplies we sent over a while back. We didn't do that much but that response was really appreciated. He suggested that you can see photos of the servicemen distributing various supplies and helping the local residents trying to return to normal at www.team9805.com and www.doonenicething.com.
