Off The Road

We are back from a hastily arranged road trip across most of America passing through some of the most beautiful states in the Union. Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas (yes Arkansas). I remember years ago trying to avoid that leg of a trip which took you from Memphis into Arkansas, on to Little Rock and ending at Texarkana. Flat, dull, wet lands...nothing to write home about. All that has changed for the better. It has become one of the more attractive places to travel through or to stay a while.

The interstates are, for the most part, smooth and fast. There are a few construction bad spots in Pennsylvania along I-78 and that should be cleared up before long. Absolutely the worst roadways, bridges and highways are right here in New York. The Goethals Bridge from Staten Island to New Jersey is horrendous and instead of being constantly under repair, this hysterical landmark should be torn down and a new bridge built in it's place. The Belt Parkway along Brooklyn's south shore is a horror show. But we could go on. The point is that we all wonder about the taxes we pay and how theses taxes are spent.

It begs the question: "NY State and NY City....WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE MONEY?"

On the same day (Sat 10/27) that gas prices on the NJ Turnpike were 2.61, in Riverhead they were 2.99.

And.. have you heard about....
the Governor of Iowa who has agreed that pumpkins are a decoration (not a food) and should, therefore, be subject to a tax. If you are going to use the pumpkin as a food then you must obtain a form for a refund of the tax. Crazy? Move over Spitzer!
