New Year Just Around The Corner
Christmas 2007 came and went and it was exciting while it lasted. Time to relax and contemplate the New Year which will be here right on time next Tuesday.
Governor Proposes Tax Cap
Governor Jodi Rell of Connecticut is suggesting that their state look into capping property tax increases at around 3%. She had originally dismissed the idea some six months ago but is now having second thoughts. The proposal puts immediate brakes on spending and requires legislators to think twice before spending the public's money. Now - isn't this an idea that all states or local municipalities (like Riverhead) should be looking into?
You may recall that Supervisor Cardinale tried to hold the budget increase to 3.1% but was trumped by the Board resulting in an increase at greater than 6%. Hello!
Riverhead Resorts Hoping to Beat Deadline
The resort developer is hoping to have a contract signature from the Town no later than midnight New Year's Eve to avoid trying to convince the newly elected Board that their proposal for EPCAL is viable. As you may know, some of the new Board members were not in favor of the Resorts proposal which includes that (ugh) ski lift. A hearing is scheduled for December 27 at Town Hall.
Don't Fertilize
The Suffolk County Legislature has passed a regulation which would prohibit anyone from putting down fertilizer between November and April. What? I think I do this now.
Crab Grass Tip
Planning to put down some pre-emergence crab grass killer in the spring? Local farm people say wait until you see the buds on the forsythia. You read it here first.
