When outgoing Councilman Ed Densieski was named to the Planning Board last week, someone had to go! Julia Bowman, longtime member of the Board, who had held similar positions in Islip, was told that she was being replaced by Densieski. Despite her experience the Town Board suggested that membership on the Planning Board required Riverhead residency. Ms. Bowman is a resident of East Quogue. There is some question as to whether this applies to elected officials only.
We do not question how well Densieski will perform as a Board member but we have to wonder why it was necessary to terminate an experienced hand at Planning. In the "now it can be told" department it should be noted that Ms. Bowman was very sympathetic to our cause in The Preserve to prevent the cutting through of the tap street.Apollo - Same Old -Same Old
Once again the Riverhead Town Board has set a deadline for Apollo to come up with a plan for restoring downtown. If they can't buy the properties, then condemnation is supposed to start. This really getting old.
New Board Members and Town Hall
Seems like the new Town Board members Wooten and Buckley are concentrating their efforts on getting a new Town Hall built. Emphasis is on finding a building or a site downtown somewhere, right on Main Street if one can be found. Is there nothing else going on in this Town except how to revitalize the downtown business district? There are plenty of others who don't live on or near Main Street who are paying more than their fair share of the freight to keep this town going....
and while we are on the subject......When are the tax paying citizens of this Town going to see some tax relief? Lets start seeing some of that EPCAL money to reduce our taxes.
Ed Romaine
County Legislator is appalled that the County Legislature refuses to schedule at least one of their sessions in the County Seat which is, of course, Riverhead. Romaine can't seem to make headway on his proposal to eliminate taxes on utilities in Suffolk County, the only county in the state that has a tax on fuel oil and gas for home heating. Who is holding this up?
