Broadwater - a dead duck.
Last week Gov David Paterson joined with Gov Jodi Rell of Connecticut and the Senators from both states, (as well as a host of environmentalists) in stating that the Broadwater project must not proceed. There may be appeals of course, but the issue seems to be dead in the water.

Riverhead School Budget Up 2.84%
The Riverhead School Board of Education has announced that the school budget for the coming year will increase by 2.84% with the tax levy increasing to 3.74%. Voting on the budget will be at the high school on May 20.

Library Budget Up 5.6%
The Riverhead Library budget will increase by 5.6% with the tax levy to increase to 5.9%. The Library budget will be voted on at the Library facility on April 29. Additional revenues from Eastport-South Manor Patrons was not included in the budget when it was assumed that the South Shore community would vote to form its own library district. The new district was rejected and the revenues will once again be included next year.

State Wants Internet Sales Taxes
In a measure passed by NY State, internet sites which sell products to New Yorkers online will have to collect sales taxes or be subject to audits. Tax amnesty has been offered to these same sites if they agree to sign on with New York by June 1.

Appolo Sees Town Hall On Main Street
The Appolo Group is proposing that a new Town Hall become part of a new complex they are proposing to include a hotel, cinemas and retail shopping. All to be located at a site on Main Street Riverhead.
