The Subject is Oil
Newt Gingrich believes that he now has over one million signatures on his Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less petition which he will soon send to Congress. On July 4th he wants Congress to declare independence from foreign oil. He also wants President Bush to issue an executive order lifting the ban on offshore drilling. In addition the Gingrich group, American Solutions.com wants immediate exploration for shale oil in Colorado and the western states.
Sounds like a movement worth joining. Have you signed the petition yet?

Short Takes
Suffolk Life closing the doors after 46 years. Hate to see them go. They have done a great job for the people for so many years. Understand Lowes may be looking at the Suffolk Life location of some 12 acres on Route 58 in Riverhead.
Local tomatoes seem to be ok. Farmstands sales are quite good. Is it possible that the FDA is reluctant to come out with a finding as to the source of problem produce because it won't institute "country of origin" labels on imports?
Zero Tolerance for downtown Riverhead seems to have lost momentum. Nobody speaks for or against it at meetings. Again-why aren't Board members paying attention to the rest of the town? Just asking.
