Romaine Wants Helicopter Altitude Limits Made Mandatory
County Legislator Ed Romaine is heading up an initiative to make the current "voluntary" altitude limit for chopper aircraft (2500 feet) flying over the County made mandatory.
Romaine says that the voluntary limit simply has not worked and noise complaints are greater than ever. Meanwhile the FAA contends that the County has no jurisdiction regarding airspace and doubt that an altitude restriction could be made to stick.
This begs the question Mr. FAA : What have you done about it?
(Please note; The Suffolk County Legislature will hold a Public Hearing on Mr. Romaine's resolution at the Suffolk County Community College's Culinary Center in Riverhead at 6:30 pm on August 19 and your comments are welcome.)
