Do One Nice Thing E-Mail (received 11/6)

"Dear Richard,
Kids Who Can't Wait for Mondays
Nice ThingJean Schmidt is the parent liaison for the Martin County School District in Kentucky. She loves working with the families but is worried sick about the kids. Why? They have no food at home. I'm not exaggerating. The only food they have is what their schools provide during the week. The children don't eat on weekends. So Jean organized a "backpack ministry" at her church: They fill backpacks with food, and send them home with 20 kids on the last two Fridays of the month. (There isn't enough donated food to send more often.) The children return the empty backpacks to school on Monday. They need help. Please send a box of energy or cereal bars to:Ms. Jean Schmidt, Inez First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 302, Inez, KY 41224, and forward this message to other people who can help."

U.S. Constitution - Amendment I

Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Some members of congress have indicated a desire to shut down talk radio by reinstating the "Fairness Doctrine". In other words all right wing or conservative time slots on radio would have to be counterbalanced with an equal time of left of center talk. In time this could be extended to print or even internet press or speech. This is intolerable censorship and violates the First Amendment. Watch for this very carefully. They may try it.

From the Political Grapevine

Now that Brian Foley, Supervisor of Brookhaven has unseated Trunzo in the NY State Senate, the Brookhaven Supervisor vacancy may be sought by Legislator Ed Romaine. We would not like to see him leave our district but he would do a lot for Brookhaven.
