November 11th of every year gives Americans an opportunity to thank their veterans for the sacrifices they have made over too many wars, conflicts or "police actions".
The men and women who have served in our armed forces did it without fanfare, asked for nothing and in return sometimes sustained serious injury or loss of their young lives.
Veteran's Day has evolved from recognition by Woodrow Wilson after World War I when it was called Armistice Day right up to Pres. Eisenhower's signing into law what is now known as Veteran's Day, which commemorates all veterans, from every service, every era whether in peacetime or in wartime.

Raynor School Does Something Special
The Raynor Country Day School on Montauk Highway, Speonk does something just a little special every year for the veterans. Students are invited to bring in their Moms, Dads, Grandparents (uncles too) who served in any branch of the military service.
A special assembly of the children is called. Patriotic songs are sung by the students and then each veteran is called up to the center of the assembly, introduced by their children or grandchildren, given an opportunity to say a few words and truly honored by the audience.
This event started out a few years ago with just 6 or 7 veterans attending. On this November 10, over fifty veterans attended (including the undersigned). There were even a few vets from WWII.
Thanks Raynor.
