LIPA Hikes Rates to 4.8%
The Long Island Power Authority plans to raise consumer rates in 2009 by 4.8% claiming that National Grid requirements have forced their hand. Meanwhile, Gov Paterson is asking the utility to recalculate their needs, sharpen the pencil and come back with a reduced increase.
Fires District Elections
Elections in various fire districts around the Island were held on Tuesday, December 11. Most residents know little if anything about the vote. A mailer or brochure placed in every mail box announcing these elections should be mandatory.
Governor Arrest in Illinois-a Wake up Call
The maneuvering for a replacement for the Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton is making for interesting news. NY State Atty Gen Cuomo wants the job as does Caroline Kennedy and several other local politicians. Gov Paterson has it within his power to name the replacement who would hold the seat for Clinton's two remaining years. Please select someone who is qualified, experienced and deserving. We have had little representation in the Senate from this seat, especially over the past two years.
