Shinnecock Indian Nation Awaits Word.

Word from the Bureau of Indian Affairs was expected this week which may finally determine the status of the Shinnecock Indian Tribe of Southampton. Tribe leaders say they have been expecting an answer from the Federal Government for almost 30 years and hope for a positive report.



Legislation on School Sports

The county legislature has reached an agreement on a bill that would require all schools to have a policy in place for the handling of head injuries and concussions resulting from playing school sports. Brian Breedenbender (D-Centereach) made the announcement.



Brian Foley Announces Bill to Reduce Payroll Tax

Brian Foley (D-Brookhaven) announced a plan to reduce the MTA payroll tax which had been invoked because of MTA's shortfall in revenues. The MTA, however just recently revealed another major shortfall in projected income.



Pelosi Endorses Plan to Curb Talk Radio.

The Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) plan to curb talk radio by invoking a bill to "encourage diversity in ownership" was endorsed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other liberals. The bill is viewed as an effort to silence Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.



Boeing Launches Dreamliner

The long awaited Boeing 787 Dreamliner made its first flight this afternoon from Boeing field. The flight was expected to take 4-5 hours.
