The House of Representatives, on Sunday evening, voted to approve the Senate Health Care Bill by a vote of 219 to 212. All of the House Republicans voted against the bill. 34 Democrats also voted against it. The bill was then sent to the President for signature. However, the Senate must now attempt to reconcile House amendments with the Senate bill which will not be an easy task. Only after reconciliation and final approval would the bill become law.
Bart Stupak(D-Michigan) who says he is a strong pro-life advocate, caved in when Obama offered him an Executive Order prohibiting Federal funding of abortions. Experts say that the Executive order is not the same as language in a statute and will not hold up under a challenge. (Did Stupak's district receive over $700,000 in airport improvement funds the weekend before the vote?)
Republicans say "Not so fast" and will try to derail the bill in reconciliation.

CD-1 Candidate Still Up in the Air
There has been no selection as yet for the Conservative candidate who will challenge Tim Bishop in the Congressional race come November. Front runners Altschuler, Cox and Bernsten are awaiting screening by both the Conservative and Republican parties.
