The National Weather Service has forecast heavy rains for Long Island on the coming weekend with a flood watch to follow. 2 1/2 to 4 inches of rain are expected on Saturday and Sunday. Weather may rain-out several St. Patricks Parades scheduled.
Shinnecock Indian Nation preliminary recognition has some looking at EPCAL for a casino location. Sean Walter does not believe a casino belongs there and would not encourage such planning. Brookhaven homeowners are also expressing a reluctance to have a casino bordering their Township.
Stupid Criminal Department
Two Southampton women who had just robbed a Riverhead store, made a quick departure but forgot to release the emergency brake on their getaway auto. State troopers stopped them when they saw smoking tires and thought they were in trouble and their vehicle possibly on fire. Their nervous manner tripped them up.
Supervisor Won't Appear on WRIV
Town Supervisor Sean Walter has elected not to appear on a weekly "Meet the Supervisor" radio program on station WRIV. Station owner Vince Tria has filed a notice of claim against the Town for his removal from the business organization B.I.D.
Downtown Hotel Construction-April Start
The Atlantis Marine World sponsored Hyatt hotel is scheduled to begin construction in April. The Town has given Atlantis until December to commence initial construction work.
