9-12 Project Suffolk County Chooses Bernsten
The members of the 9-12 Project of Suffolk County have voted to endorse Gary Bernsten as the candidate to oppose Tim Bishop (D-CD1) in the District 1 Congressional District in November.  Bernsten is a former CIA Career Officer having served from 1982 to 2005 and now runs his own security consulting firm.  The 9-12 Group is, of course, not a political party of it's own and with their endorsement it is urging both the Republican and Conservative Parties to nominate Bernsten as their candidate.
Other candidates remain in the field and are also hoping for the GOP or Conservative nod.  Chris Cox and Randy Altschuler are among those still actively pursuing the ticket.

School Budget Tax Proposal 2.5%
The Riverhead School Board will consider a school budget for the coming 2010-2011 school year which would include a 1.99% increase in spending and a 2.5% increase in taxes to the public.  The budget will have a public vote on May 18.  Two Board seats are open for consideration.  A proposition to spend 1.34 million dollars for a Roanoke School elevator installation and repairs will also be presented for approval.  The District already has the money but needs public approval to spend the money.

NO Casino or Racetrack at EPCAL
Conclusion of the EPCAL contract with Riverhead Resorts will foreclose any hopes of a Shinnecock Tribe casino on the old Grumman site.  The Shinnecock Indian Nation had hopes of building a casino on the grounds since Southampton is unlikely to approve one on their reservation.  A racetrack is also out of the picture.
