School Superintendent Will Retire
Riverhead School Superintendent Dr. Diane Sricca has confirmed that she will retire this summer.  The Superintendent was hired by the Riverhead School District three years ago.

School Budget Vote on May 18
The residents of Riverhead will vote on the 2010-2011 school district budget on May 18.  Voting will take place at the Riverhead High School.  An approved budget will result in increased spending of about 1.99 million and a 2.5% tax increase.
Two seats on the Board held by two long time Board members, Mary-Ellen Harkin and Christine Prete will be contested by 3 school district  residents.  Mary Meyer, co-founder of the Suffolk County 9-12 Project has announced her intention to run for one of the seats.

Former CIA Officer Seeks CD-1 Seat
Gary Bernsten, former CIA officer and owner of his own security consulting firm continues to seek the nomination of the Conservative and Republican parties of Suffolk County.  It is unclear whether there will be a straightout nomination of a candidate by either party or whether there will be a primary to decide the candidate.
Bernsten has received an 82%  approval rating of the 9-12 Suffolk Project and an almost 93% approval score by the CSA, a conservative action group with more than 4400 members in the area.

The Yellow Barn is Open
Looking for inexpensive books to buy?  The Yellow Barn has reopened for the spring/summer.  The little yellow building, adjacent to the main library is open for business from 9 am to 2pm Monday and Friday.  Find great books at a dollar and paperbacks at just .25 cents.
