Chris Cox Making a Move
The crowd of candidates trying to unseat Tim Bishop for the Congressional seat in CD-1 is a strong one  and is producing good potential politicos.  Chris Cox , the grandson of former President Richard Nixon, has been running hard and wants the GOP nomination for the run in November.  Cox has some strong backing and has been making a name for himself.

Others at the forefront in the race for the First Congressional District include Randy Altschuler, just endorsed by the Suffolk Conservative Party, and Gary Bernsten, the former CIA officer and author.  Bernsten has been favorably vetted  by the 9-12 Project of Suffolk

Evaluate Teachers ?
New York State educational authorities and the Teacher's Union have proposed a new teacher evaluation system partly from student performance results and other factors.  More details are coming.

Paterson Rebuffed by Judge
Governor David Paterson has proposed a reduction in State spending by furloughing a number of NY State employees.  An uproar ensued however, when it was revealed that he had also approved raises of $5,000 to $10,000 for a number of his aides.  The furloughs were rescinded when a judge put a halt to them.

Riverhead School Budget May 18
Voting for the Riverhead School Budget will be held at the Riverhead High School gym on May 18 between the hours of  6:00 am to 9:00 pm.  Two seats on the Board of Education are being contested by three individuals (two of them are incumbents).

The Preserve Journal endorses Mary Meyer for election to the school board.

Tea Party candidate Jennifer Rasi is running for the Montauk school board.
