Suffolk Republicans : Open Primary
The Suffolk County Republican Party has decided to hold an open primary for all contenders vying for the Congressional seat (CD-1) currently held by Tim Bishop.  Contending for the seat are Randy Altschuler, George Demos, Christopher Cox, Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick and Gary Bernsten.  The list may not be complete.

Calverton Group Heads to Gulf
Members of Miller Environmental are heading to Pensacola, Florida hoping to head off the oil slick which is expected to make landfall in six areas along the Gulf Coast.

Nassau Exec Likes Casino Idea
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano believes that a casino operation in the Nassau Coliseum will provide relief for the largest deficit seen by Nassau County.  No word as yet on progress from the Shinnecock Indian Nation.

Mangano Likes 51st State
No..not Puerto Rico.  Mangano is supporting the idea of Long Island becoming the 51st state.  Says that LIers are fed up with high taxes and being ignored by Albany.

Vail-Leavitt to Retain Festival
Looking more and more like the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall will retain the rights to the annual Riverhead Blues and Music Festival.  The Chamber of Commerce was seeking a take over of the event.

Councilmen Renege on 5% Pay Reduction
During the recent campaign for Council elections, candidate George Gabrielsen and incumbents Leavy and Wooten promised to refuse a 5% salary increase.  Only Gabrielsen has followed through.
