The Riverhead Public Library held a public meeting on Tuesday evening at 7 pm to present and review the library's budget for the coming year. The budget spells out an increase of 3.3 million dollars in spending . A public vote on the budget will be held at the Library on April 5 between 10 am and 8 pm.
School District Budget Meeting Also
The Riverhead Central School District was scheduled to meet on Tuesday evening at the Middle School to present the District's budget for the coming year. The meeting was at 7 pm. There will be additional budget presentations at various local schools on a weekly basis until the public vote on May 17.
Levy Holding Off OTB Bankruptcy.
County Executive Steve Levy is holding off any legislative resolution which would allow the Suffolk Off Track Betting corporation to file for bankruptcy. Perhaps Levy has a solution which could forestall the financial failure of the OTB. The NYC OTB met a similar fate.
Wicks in for Zimbler
Associate Principal David Wicks has been named to temporarily assume the duties of Riverhead High School Principal replacing David Zimbler who has resigned to take a position in Westbury schools.
21st Century Buys PC Richards Vacant Building
21st Century Oncology Centers has agreed to purchase the vacant P.C. Richards building on Route 58 (near Burger King) and will establish a cancer treatment center at that location. Peconic Bay Medical Center will lease space in the building.
New Football Coach at Mercy
Jeff Doroski has been named the new football coach at Bishop McGann-Mercy High School. The new coach is a graduate of Mercy.
