The Riverhead School Board has appointed William Hsiang to the Board replacing Angela Devito for the remainder of her unexpired term. The Board had reviewed the applications of some twelve others wishing to be considered for the position. Hsiang had served on the board several years ago. Mr Hsiang has stated that he would not seek to be elected at the end of his term in 2012.
Demolition On West Main
The Weeping Willow Motel is in the final stages of demolition. The Town has begun to take down the structure and is expected to finish the job soon.
Holding Tuition at SCCC
The Suffolk County Legislature has apparently been able to hold the fall tuition at Suffolk County Community College below the $4,000 level. Students can expect a small increase, however, keeping the number at $3996.
Polish Town Fair
The Polish Town Civic Association is scheduling a Polish Town Fair and Carnival on August 19, 20 and 21 having made required application to the Town for permits.
Town Code Revised
The Town Board has revised the building code to change the size of an allowed accessory building from the 100 sq feet to 144 sq feet on properties zoned as residential A-40, RB-40 and A-80. The code change also applies to agricultural, hamlet and natural resources zoning. All have a max height of 12 feet but other restrictions apply. In addition, no permit is required for an accessory building meeting these standards. Check before you build,
