The Suffolk 9-12 Project will hold a special monthly meeting on Wednesday (Feb 15) at 7 pm at the Polish Hall in Riverhead. Hosted by Bob and Mary Meyer special guest speakers will include Ed Cox, New York State Republican Committee and Randy Altschuler (R), the candidate who will oppose Tim Bishop (D) in the fall election. Refreshments are being served at this event and a fee of $15 is being charged to attend. Altschuler has been endorsed by the Suffolk 9-12 Project.  The group has also endorsed Newt Gingrich in the presidential race.

DA Sues Over Term Limits
Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota (D) has filed suit in State Supreme Court over the term limits law in Suffolk County which will prohibit his running for another term next year. Spota believes the law is illegal.  Joining the DA in the lawsuit is Sheriff Vincent DeMarco (C) and County Clerk Judith Pascale(R) who are also term limited..

The Bamboo Curtain
The Brookhaven Council is drafting a law which will prohibit homeowners from growing bamboo in their front yards.  The invasive plant is extremely difficult to control and hard to stop from advancing into other surrounding yards.  Severe penalties will be imposed on bamboo growers.  A second offense could draw 6 months in the slammer. (Weaving baskets, one would assume, using strips of bamboo...what else?)
