Montauk Lighthouse- A Landmark
The United States Department of Interior has designated the Montauk Lighthouse as a national landmark.


Nassau Cuts Precincts
Nassau County Executive Mangano with the approval of the Nassau legislature will reduce the number of police precincts from 8 to 4.  A vote to approve the reduction fell along party lines and the affirmative ( a vote to reduce) won out 10-9,  The move puts many Nassau jobs in jeopardy and those opposing the decision vow to fight back.


Huge Suffolk Deficit Threatens Jobs
The $33 million dollar gap in the Suffolk County budget at years end was the first in almost 20 years.  Now word comes that an independent panel has put the Suffolk County deficit at over $530 million dollars.  This is an unprecedented deficit and may cost jobs.  Steve Bellone, Suffolk Supervisor is estimating that at least 500 jobs would be lost by June. Bellone has serious doubts that the deficit can be overcome in the short term.

Redistricting Giving Headaches
The recently redrawn redistricting plans for Long Island may make for some serious election problems for Congressman Peter King  as well as for Steve Labate who planned to oppose Congressman Steve Israel in the November election.  It may mean that Labate and King would have to go head to head in a primary to see who would oppose Israel.  This is not final Stay tuned on this one.
