Huge Increase in Health Care Premiums
It is now reliably estimated that under Obamacare, the average premium cost for a family of four (4) will be approximately $20,000 a year.  You may remember that before the bill was passed Obama promised a reduction in premiums of about $2500 a year.  Chief Justice Roberts what have you done?  Won't someone please repeal this horror?

Trouble in Calverton
Four neighbors from Southfield Court have been charged with stealing shrimp from local markets and reselling the shell fish to a Chinese restaurant in Mastic.  The restaurant owner has also been charged under sanitary codes.

Legislature to Vote on Sex Offenders
The Suffolk County Legislature is expected to listen to final arguments today regarding the future of sex offender placement in the county.  Currently, known sex offenders are housed in trailers in Riverside (at the jail) and in Westhampton.  The new plan is to close the trailers and move the inhabitants into county owned shelters but not more than one per shelter. Legislators are urging county residents to speak up about this issue  and help the lawmakers to decide the final policy.  Today's legislative meeting is in Hauppauge at 3 pm.

Animal Shelter for EPCAL
The proponents of the "Move The Animal Shelter" initiative are now proposing that they be allowed to construct an animal shelter in EPCAL with supporters urging a location just behind the newly finished ball fields.  I don't know if this has Town Board support or not.

Let's see:  The North Fork Animal Welfare League will soon take over (March 1) the operation of the Town run animal shelter on Youngs Avenue.  This same organization has not withdrawn it's application to locate a cat spay and neutering center at the opposite end of Youngs (much to the concern of nearby residents).  Kent, a private organization, currently operates an animal shelter and treatment center in South Riverhead (and does it nicely too).

Also, the Town Board will discuss and vote today on a proposal which allows any town employee, not just animal control officers, to capture a stray animal .  Huh?
