No Ruling on Cat Shelter
The Riverhead Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on this past Thursday evening did not announce any decision regarding the cat spay and neutering center planned for a parcel on  Youngs Avenue.  The Board, instead, continued the public hearing for a date in February.

Those who attended the meeting felt, however, that the hearing's speeches and discussions seemed to favor the position of the residents who opposed the application.  Organizers are urging residents to continue collecting petition signatures and letters which will strengthen their position for the next hearing.

A date for the next hearing has not yet been specified.

Ice Skating at Stotsky
The long awaited opening of the ice skating rink has finally happened. The park was opened last week when persistent low temperatures finally froze over the six inches of water.  Open everyday 8 am to 9 pm.
