Broadwater
The proposed gas terninal intended for Long Island Sound is getting lots of resistance from the public. They (the public) have been very outpoken in their opposition. Meanwhile Tim Bishop our 1st District congressman, has had his request for additional public hearings rejected by the Federal Regulatory Agency. Don't be surprised if this controversial proposal gets approved despite widespread disapproval of the plan by many public officials as well as the public from both sides of the Sound.

F1 Go-Karts
The Planning Board has taken over the review of the F1 Go-Kart proposal for an installation planned for construction on Edwards Avenue. The draft impact statement for the project is now under consideration. Major objections come from operators of the Calverton Links golf course and the horse breeding farm located on adjacent parcels.

First Class Town
A mixed response to the proposed change from a second class to a first class town has probably resulted in relegating the idea to the back burner for a while anyway. Many did not like the concept of a single, appointed assessor as opposed to the presently elected assessor with 2 deputies. Some suggested a power grab by the Supervisor. The idea of councilmatic districts (councilpersons assigned to represent town districts instead of serving "at large") was viewed as inapprpriate for a town of this size.
