School Board Considering Land Sale
The Riverhead School Board in a meeting at 6 pm on Tuesday June 10, will consider the sale of 25 acres in Aquebogue to Northeast Farms for a reported $651,000 dollars. Previous plans for the land included a YMCA and various other projects, none of which materialized mostly due to residents opposition. The meeting is open to the public.
Move to EPCAL is Costly
The North Fork Animal Welfare League or NFAWL is planning to build a new structure at EPCAL as an animal shelter. The community center originally planned as the new shelter will be turned into a cat treatment center. Cost of the new shelter's structure is estimated to be more than $600,000 which NFAWL officials feel they can finance using current reserves and future funding and without requiring public funds (taxes).
Strawberry Festival This Week
The Mattituck Lions Club will hold its annual Strawberry Festival this week from June 12 to June 15. Admission for adults will be free on Thursday (June 12), $5.00 on Friday (June 13) and $7 on Saturday and Sunday (June 14 and 15). See their web site for additional ticketing and events information.
Solar on Private Lands
The Town is considering issuing permits for solar arrays on private lands. One application being reviewed is for a 14 acre display area just east of the charter school on Rte 25. Solar company claims that the installation could provide electric for 400 homes.
Shouldn't Jockey Espinosa have gone to the front with Chrome right out of the gate? Opening was there and it was a slow pace. Ended up having to go wide around the final turn using a lot of energy. Injured hoof was a little disturbing so maybe he couldn't have made it anyway. He gave us all a good ride anyway.
