The ongoing dispute as to whether Riverhead or Suffolk County will provide 911 emergency calling service may finally get resolved when the issue is placed on the November ballot as a referendum. Supervisor Cardinale has stated that if the voter decision favors moving the dispatcher function to the County, the displaced Riverhead dispatchers will be given preferred positions on Civil Service hiring lists.
Meanwhile Sean Walter, Conservative/Republican candidate for Supervisor believes the function should remain with the Town and also faults Cardinale for not increasing the Town police force as promised in the past.

White House Dropping Public Option?

All indications that the White House is seriously considering dropping the public option in the health care proposal. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (on a Sunday talk radio interview) all but admitted that this requirement would soon disappear. The White House immediately denied it.
Put the case..........
That 90% of eligible Americans already have health insurance coverage (a fact not in dispute).
also put the case..........
That only about 12 or 14 million Americans are without, but need insurance. (Not the 46 million people Obama would have you believe.
Finally..put the case.........
That these 12-14 million people could be covered with health care with about 25 billion dollars by direct funding or setting up local clinics in desperate communities. (Please note that only about 15% of the stimulus bill funds have actually been spent.)
So....why would you throw out the health care system enjoyed by 288 million Americans just to provide health care for 14 million Americans who can easily be given health care without great cost?
but, of course, what do I know?
