Riverhead School Budget Passes
Voters in the Riverhead school district passed the district's proposed budget by more than 500 votes.  The final count was 2079 to 1571.

Two newcomers win seats, incumbents lose.
Amelia Lantz and Jeffrey Falisi both won seats on the school board while the two incumbents, Mary-Ellen Harkin and Christine Prete lost to the challengers.  Final tally as follows:

Proposition to spend reserve fund passes.
Voters also approved the expenditure of reserve funds for new roofing as well the installation of an elevator in the Roanoke School.

Sean Walter and Chris Cox to Speak at 9-12 Meeting

The 9-12 SC Project will have two guest speakers at its monthly meeting on Wednesday 5/19.  Town Supervisor Sean Walter has asked to speak before the members to clarify his proposal for the Town takeover of the Great Rock Golf Course.  Chris Cox, who is running for the CD-1 seat in opposition to Tim Bishop will also attend and speak to the group.

Legislators Oppose Casino

Suffolk County legislators Ed Romaine and Dan Losquadro and Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner have gone on record in opposition to any plan that would place a casino at the site of the vacant Shoreham plant.  The Shinnecock indian tribe is still hoping to find a suitable site (and welcome reception) for a casino on Long Island.

Gas Prices are what????

Two weeks ago oil prices were fixed at about $80 a barrel and gasoline at the pump was $3.12 for unleaded regular.  Oil is now down to $69 a barrel and gas in Riverhead is down just one cent or $3.11 for unleaded regular.  Nationally, gasoline has come down 5 cents a gallon (on average).  You think we could be getting ripped off? ..Nah!
