Know Your Candidates.
Election day 2010 will be here before you know it.  How much do you know about your candidates.  Check their web sites for more information. First in a series.

Gary Bernsten- Republican /Conservative running for U.S. Senate seat currently held by Chuck Schumer. Bernsten is a former CIA officer who, originally sought the seat of Tim Bishop in the CD-1 but decided to move on to oppose Schumer. May be opposed by Jay Townsend.

Bruce Blakeman-Republican running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand who, of course, had been appointed by Gov Paterson to replace Hillary Clinton who resigned the Senate to accept the post of Secretary of State.  Opposed by David Malpass who has been gaining ground.

Chris Cox-Republican. Will be opposed by Randy Altschuler and George Demos in a primary battle to see who goes up against Tim Bishop in the CD-1.  The Suffolk County Board of Elections certified Chris Cox's "Opportunity to Ballot" petition which would permit him to appear in a Conservative Party primary.  Some Conservatives have sought to deny the Cox petition by challenging the "OTB" in court.  Altschuler had been selected by the Conservative Party as it's nominee until Cox mounted the petition drive.

Rick Lazio-Republican had expected clear sailing for the nomination for Governor but upstater Carl Paladino has run a strong campaign to secure a primary vote but also to establish a new voting line on the ballot, The Tax Day Party may win enough backing to have a line on the November election.

Carl Paladino-Republican and outspoken Conservative has been winning support from many upstate Republican and Conservative organizations and is expected to play the spoiler in the November balloting.

Correction: Chris Cox did not win any court case to appear on the Conservative Party ballot for the primary. That case is still pending. You should update your post to reflect that.

To anonymous. The posting has been corrected by specifying that the Suffolk Board of Elections has certified the Cox petition as an "Opportunity to Ballot" which was subsequently challenged in court to await an outcome. Thanks for pointing out the error.

To Lucky Archer
Interesting comments but you are way off the subject matter for this blog.
