20,000 at Tunnel to Towers Run
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K run on Sunday 9/26 was the 9th running of the event which commemorated the heroic act of Firefighter Stephen Siller.   On 9/11 2001, Siller, in full firefighting gear, ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in his effort to save lives at the World Trade Center.  He perished that day along with hundreds of his fellow firemen.

Opposition To Bishop is Strong
The battle between incumbent Congressman Tim Bishop and Republican Randy Altschuler is heating up.  Altschuler is outspoken about Bishop's approval of the Obama agenda  and Bishop has sent out mailings accusing Altschuler of outsourcing American jobs.  Alstschuler is committed to the repeal of the Healthcare Reform bill and has signed on to other Conservative promises.  Altschuler is trying to build  support with conservative groups and will speak to the 912 Suffolk Project membership at it's next meeting.

Clean Tracks
The MTA is AWOL when it comes to cleaning up the tracks at the LIRR station in Riverhead.  The Town had to engage the services of inmates from the Suffolk prison to help with the cleanup.  Volunteers from the jail, glad to get out of the four walled environment, made quick work of the trash pickup.  Oddly enough, the MTA bills Suffolk County for keeping the area cleaned.   Huh?

Meanwhile The Preserve Journal has been on to the Supervisor to improve the bumpy track crossover on Osborn.  It rattles your struts, shocks and your teeth.  Walter passed the request along to the MTA for action.

Extend the Spur
Recently a spur of track line into EPCAL was repaired extended to several points at the west end of Enterprise Park and then connected to the LIRR main line.  There are some thoughts now that the spur should be extended to the eastern end of EPCAL as well.  Stay tuned.
