New Town Attorney
Its Official! Robert Kozakiewicz former Town Supervisor, local attorney and most recently; a deputy town attorney will officially be named Town Attorney. Dawn Thomas, present Town Attorney will leave that post to law clerk for a Suffolk Supreme Court Judge.
Kozakiewicz will be paid $106,500 a year plus 100% of health coverage. He had been earning $44,000 as a part time attorney for the town plus 75% of his health care coverage.
Town Settles for $1.2 Million
The suit filed by the Town of Riverhead against a local engineering firm has been settled for $1.2 million dollars. The suit filed by the town was with regard to unanticipated cost overruns relating to reclamation of the town landfill on Youngs Avenue.
The engineering firm had claimed that the town owed them $80,000 for work performed on behalf of the town. They have now been paid $37,000.
Trouble in the Legislature
The departure of Dan Losquadro from the Suffolk County legislature to the NY State Assembly has brought about some challenges to the Minority Leader position in the legislature. John Kennedy (R) Nesconset wants the job but conservative action groups are strongly opposing him and anyone supporting him. The 9-12 Project of Suffolk thinks he is far too liberal. Stay tuned.
LIRR Rate Hikes- Bad Timing
The LIRR increased ticket prices on riders by 7.5% today and the riders are very unhappy. Means about $19 a month on a commutation ticket and takes the monthly tab up to about $299 for many commuters.
