Skating Rink Downtown
The Town Board in conjunction with BID (business district association) seems to be ready to approve a skating rink for downtown.  The rink, to be located behind Main Street on the waterfront, is to be of synthetic ice and will measure around 50' by 80'.  The proponents expect the rink to be used nearly year round.  The cost of the facility will be around $300,000, more if a roof is also approved.

There are many critics of this project including those who believe that the synthetic skating surface is very inferior and will turn off most skaters.  Many question the source of the funding.  BID is currently out of money and Supervisor Walter suggested that unused funds earmarked for the Suffolk Theater could be used. Others suggest that this would not be allowed.  Some have suggested that the income from the landfill solar leasing project be tapped while still others want the solar money to pay off the landfill debt.  Stay tuned.

Romaine for Brookhaven Supervisor?
Legislator Ed Romaine (R-1st Leg District) is considering a run for Brookhaven Town Supervisor, a position that is about to be vacated by current Supervisor Mark Lesko.  Romaine is well known in the district and could make a good run no matter who the Dems put up.  If Romaine were to lose the election he would remain as a legislator.  If he won, however, both parties would have to scramble to find an electable candidate for the legislative seat.

Wendy Long
The Suffolk 9-12 Project will announce a new date for a Wendy Long appearance whenever the event can be rescheduled.
