Landfill Going Solar
The Town Board has decided that a solar farm would be the best use for the capped landfill on Youngs Avenue. They have started the contract process with the Borego Corp which has constructed several solar farms on the island. Terms require that Borego pay the town $162,000 annually with possible increases if more panels are installed.
Concerns about the cap being penetrated by the structures are alleviated by placement of concrete slabs which will support the panel structure. Not a done deal as LIPA first must agree to the process.
So what happened to that lovely park we were promised? Just asking!
