Walter Loses 2-1
Sean Walter (R) suffered a serious loss to Al Krupski (D) on Tuesday in his bid to become a Suffolk County legislator.  Krupski ran away with the election beating the Riverhead Supervisor by a more than 2 to 1 margin. Krupski even trounced Walter in 19 of 22 Riverhead districts to win the legislative seat vacated by Ed Romaine (R).   Romaine left the county position when he was elected Brookhaven Supervisor.
Democrats in the legislature now have a super majority and can, presumably, pass just about any bills they want.

Board Finally Looks at FAA Proposal.
This blog has been advocating promoting and selling the FAA on the idea of building their much needed new facility on the grounds at EPCAL.  We have been calling for this since last summer.  The FAA has been running ads offering to purchase 48-50 acres of land for the installation and the Riverhead board is only reacting now (and somewhat reluctantly I might add).  A bid to respond to the FAA request is going to be prepared before the January 31 deadline.

2nd Amendment Advocates Concerned About New Law
There were many reports this week about significant purchases of firearms and ammunition at gun shops in the county.  Many who oppose the new law believe the bill was pushed through and signed by the Governor without adequate time for state legislators to review the various provisions.  It is curious why state assemblymen would sign a bill without giving it appropriate time for judicial review.

Update
(Note:) Both State Sen Ken Lavalle (R) and State Assemblyman Dan Losquadro (R) voted FOR the bill while State Sen Lee Zeldin (R) currently on Army Reserve duty out-of-state says that he would have voted against the bill.

Zeldin's analysis of the bill may be found on his Facebook page.  Meanwhile angry comments  by displeased Second Amendment advocates were being mysteriously removed from Losquadro's Facebook page.
