Zeldin
The news that State Senator Lee Zeldin will challenge Tim Bishop for the congessional seat is welcome news indeed. Zeldin is an outstanding representative and would be a credit to all Long Islanders here on the East End. Bishop has voted the Democrat party line from the very beginning and does not represent the thinking of the majority of Long Islanders in this area.
Now if we could just find someone to challenge Pete King. Peter...its over!
Foxwoods Vs Costco
Apparently the residents of Foxwoods Village are still not happy about the construction of the Costco store on Route 58. Seems that the berm or tree plantings that they believe were promised to block residents view of the store and parking lot are not satisfactory. Residents intend to muster a rally against that aspect of the project and put some pressure on the Planning or Building Department.
East End Rowing
This club sport has been occupying a small spit of land in Flanders, close by "the Big Duck for many years. They never had a structure. No place to store things. Only a porta-potty for sanitation and a not very secure grove of trees under which to store their expensive boats.
The Town has given them a new home on McDermott Street in Riverhead. It is a residential home purchased for future use by the Sewer Department but will now serve as home base for the Association. The house includes hot shower facilities as well as a location for practice rowing machines. A $90,000 grant helped make all this happen. They are now close by the Peconic waterfront, site of their very popular "Snowflake Regatta", a rowing competition which is scheduled for November 10.
There is no need to panic regarding stories of a Government default on October 17. According to Stuart Varney of the Fox Business Channel, the Treasury takes in some $200 billion dollars monthly, enough to pay all of the interest on our debt as well as out standing bills for some time to come.
